Mandantory Identification & Requirements for FBA Listings for Europe, North America and India

Starting October 3, 2017, sellers in the North American, European, and India marketplaces who attempt to convert a listing to Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) will need to provide additional information on any products that are batteries, contain or are sold with batteries, or may be considered dangerous goods (also called hazardous materials or Hazmat).

Changes for Merchants

• For batteries and products containing or sold with batteries. Sellers will be asked for descriptive characteristics such as battery composition (e.g., lithium ion, alkaline, etc.) and the number of batteries.
• For products considered dangerous goods. Sellers will be required to provide additional information to identify characteristics of the product such as flammability or corrosiveness that would indicate the transportation classification (UN Number).

For Developers and Solution Provider

If you develop an application that converts listings to FBA for sellers, you need to be aware of these new requirements. See the following guidance for using XML feeds or flat file feeds.

XML feeds:

The Product Feed XSD (Product.xsd) and the Base XSD (amzn-base.xsd) have been updated to include battery and dangerous goods information about a product. Before submitting a feed to Amazon MWS that attempts to convert a listing to FBA, your application must first submit the Product Feed to provide battery and dangerous goods information about the product. If the battery and dangerous goods information for the product is not submitted, the conversion to FBA will fail.

Flat file feeds

The Flat File Inventory Loader Feed template has been updated to include battery and dangerous goods information about a product. You can find this template in Seller Central Help.

• For products that are in Amazon’s catalog:
  Your application can create a listing and convert it to FBA using the Flat File Inventory Loader Feed, but the feed must contain the battery and dangerous goods information about the product to be successful.
• For products that are not in Amazon’s catalog:
  Your application can create a listing by submitting a flat file category feed. However, you cannot use that feed to convert the listing to FBA. After submitting the category feed, your application must then submit the Flat File Inventory Loader Feed to provide the battery and dangerous goods information for the product, and request conversion to FBA.
